How Veneers Help You
The appearance of a tooth can be negatively impacted for several reasons. If you play contact sports, tripped and fell, or otherwise sustained an injury to your mouth, the injury could have chipped or cracked a tooth and created an uneven appearance. Factors like genetics and the use of certain medication can cause a tooth to darken in col-md-6or from the inside out. A tooth can also grow in crooked, creating unappealing gaps between the teeth.
Porcelain Veneers help patients reshape their teeth to create a uniform, beautiful smile. Minor spacing issues between a handful of teeth are covered by the width of the veneer. Internal staining, which cannot be lifted by teeth whitening products, is concealed. The chips and cracks are covered and reinforced by the veneer, making the tooth appear to be complete.
We offer both traditional veneers, which are used in a wider variety of cases, and Lumineers®, a “prepless” veneer than can be placed with little alteration to the structure of the tooth.
The Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
There are some benefits porcelain veneers provide that are also provided by other treatments. Composite bonding uses a tooth-col-md-6ored resin—the same material used to create white fillings—to fill in the minor chips and cracks in a tooth, as well as make a tooth appear to be slightly thicker than it was for small spacing issues. Additionally, these spacing concerns could be addressed with an orthodontic treatment.
In these cases, veneers are recommended by our Wollaston dental practice for one of two reasons.
First, veneers are more effective at fixing teeth spacing issues than composite bonding, but they require much less of a hassle than braces. The same can be said of veneers and covering chips and cracks; veneers covering bigger structure issues than bonding, but any cracks or chips larger than a veneer can cover would require a crown. In short, veneers make an ideal middle ground between one procedure that may not treat the tooth enough and another that restores the tooth too much.
Second, veneers treat several conditions at once: the unappealing appearance of chipped teeth, spacing issues which are primarily an aesthetic concern, and internal teeth stains. While bonding only treats the chips and orthodontics only straightens the teeth, veneers can serve both needs as applicable.
